Finally, school has begun. Though I'm pretty exhausted by the preparation and stuff, I'm glad I'm back to school. No more empty thoughts. No more wondering mind. I was in some sort of financial crisis for awhile. Thank goodness it is settled - though not the best solution. Had to sacrifice about US$800. But well, it's just money. I'd be able to earn it back with the part-time job in school.
Oh, got my SSN. Got a new cellphone. Paid the damn $500 deposit for a year's contract.
Preparing for 2 upcoming concerts this semester. Harp Extravaganza in Feb 08 and Women Musicians Network Concert in March 09. For the HE, will be playing Handel's "Harp Concerto in B-flat" (First Movement) as my solo piece. and 2 duet jazz piece, "Stop it!" and "Softly as in a morning sunrise" with Margaux. Then "St Thomas" for the quintet in the Finale. For WMN, will be playing "Nineteen" on the piano for Nat. Nice slow, indie, Vanessa Carlton type of piece. More rehearsals and practices!
I'm also taking a freakingly good class with Jamey Haddad. As a percussionist (the harp is a percussion, mind you), I'm very excited to expand my rhythmic horizons. I'm now beating myself, why didn't I learn more Indian music from my Indian friends in pri/sec school? dang. Now I've to learn everything from scratch. "Ta-ki-de-mi-ta-ki-ta" was the first 'word' I learnt in the class. It's a 7-beat/syllabus word. Yeah, we started by learning the 7/4, 7/8, 7/16, 7-triplets beat rhythms. And that's supposed to be the basic. Where have I been the past 27 years?!
But all's good. I enjoyed it a great deal, despite having to buy a tar drum (hand drum) for $140. Good long-term investment, I hope.
Oh yeah, my class for Studio Technologies course was also the first to step into the newly-built recording facilities in the 150 building. Cool! The studios were built specially for the Music Synthesis students! Yippee! and we were the first batch of students who will be given priority and access to the studios! Giddy-up! I'm starting to think what sort of thing/instrument am I going to record and hehee... demo? Can't wait...
Sigh.. this semester is also sucking alot of $ from me. Textbooks - about $200, drum - $140, Software bundle with the Mbox2 - $1000+... arghh... *heartache*
Anywayz, this semester is going to be fun, tough, busy, exciting, exhilarating, daring, tiring - crazy. And it's really just the beginning... All the best to me.
Got to go. It's 1:10am n I've to work from 9am-3pm tomorrow. hee haa...
